WexCast: Jaamil Olawale Kosoko & André M. Zachery

Nov 20, 2018

Multimedia artist Jaamil Olawale Kosoko in a performance of Seancers

This fall, Columbus has been fortunate to host an extended visit from André M. Zachery, choreographer, multimedia artist, and director of Renegade Performance Group, who’s currently a visiting faculty member in Ohio State’s Department of Dance. The Wex has been especially lucky to host RPG’s performance of Untamed Space in September and to have André working with us on podcasts with other visiting artists.

For this Wexcast, André speaks with Jaamil Olawale Kosoko, who’s coming to the Wex December 6-8 with Séancers. Jaamil's bold, radical performance work takes on the racialized body, systemic oppression, and personal loss, conjuring a viscerally intense journey into the black experience. Jaamil and André touch on time travel, as well as the topics of representation, self care, and developing a loose community of like-minded artists around the country.  Jaamil has also shared an extensive and absorbing syllabus of writings and other materials that have provided inspiration for the work.
