Mix Tape (from Tape Number One) (2013–16)

Still image of dolls from Catastrophe & Convenience

This selection of videos from San Francisco–based artist Tommy Becker’s ongoing Tape Number One project combines poetry and songwriting with performance, found footage, and handmade costumes and props. Part video poem and part music video, the works included on Mix Tape set the artist’s sentimental yearnings against banal and often absurd imagery. Works in the program include and Prelude to the Lemons and Song for Lemons (2013), Prelude to Koko and Song for Koko (2015), and Catastrophe & Convenience (2016), which was supported through a residency in the Wexner Center’s Film/Video Studio. (program approx. 20 mins., digital video)
