A child, composed of paper and fibers, holds his kite outside of a house.

This poignant and wordless animated short offers visual delight and a powerful metaphoric lesson about remembering those who are no longer with us.

In this stop-motion animation with cute, cut-out cloth puppets, a little boy visits his grandfather in the countryside and they fly a kite together. They are both made out of layers that symbolize their age. The boy has many of these layers, with his whole life ahead of him. But grandfather has already lost his layers and has only a few left. As he gets close to the end of his life, he is as thin as a single sheet, ready for the autumn wind to carry him away. (14 mins., digital video) Closed captioning available.
