Asako I & II

(Netemo sametemo, Ryûsuke Hamaguchi, 2018)
Valentine's Day Screening

A boy and a girl lay on the asphalt staring at one another

Join us for a special Valentine’s Day preview screening of a captivating and surprising Japanese romance that’s been a big hit on the film festival circuit. Two years after Asako’s first love suddenly disappears, she meets his perfect physical double. Even though this doppelgänger acts totally different, Asako can’t help searching for her earlier love in him. The film astutely sketches the trajectory of a love—or rather, two loves—lost and found in the most unusual variations. (119 mins., DCP)

"A mellow date movie with some big insights about relationships—accessible and artful, a combination that should be more common."

Come early for an afternoon of Valentine’s Day events, including a guided tour of the exhibitions (5 PM), a Wex Hour featuring champagne and chocolates (6–7:30 PM), and a poetry reading by Kent Grosswiler in the Wexner Center Store (6 PM).
