A two-film spotlight on the internationally renowned Cambodian filmmaker

We’re honored to welcome one of the world’s great documentarians to the Wex for a screening of his recent film Irradiated. Rithy Panh’s career project has been to expose, document, and contemplate the genocide committed by the Khmer Rouge against the Cambodian people in the late 1970s—such as with his acclaimed documentary The Missing Picture, screening October 2. In Irradiated, screening the following night, Panh expands his scope to consider the history of worldwide wartime violence and brutality during the 20th century.

Having “long pursued new ways of seeing modern history’s most resonant nightmares,” according to IndieWire, Panh has “always been desperate to reconcile the unimaginable with its absent sense of reality, and weaponize past trauma into a deterrent against the devastation to come.”
