Hear from Ohio State College of Arts and Sciences Distinguished Professor Linda Mizejewski as she reads from her new book about screen star and writer Carrie Fisher.

Linda Mizejewski's Our Blessed Rebel Queen: Essays on Carrie Fisher and Princess Leia (Wayne State University Press) is the first full-length exploration of Fisher's career as an actress, writer, and advocate. Edited with Tanya D. Zuk, the book also looks at such topics as merchandising, fans’ ownership of a public figure, the public’s expectation for older actresses, Fisher’s mental health advocacy, and more. A Q&A session follows the talk. Mizejewski is College of Arts and Sciences Distinguished Professor in Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies. (program approx. 60 mins.)

Professor Linda Mizejewski specializes in cinema studies and popular culture. She is the author of Divine Decadence: Fascism, Female Spectacle and the Makings of Sally Bowles (1992); Ziegfeld Girl: Image and Icon in Culture and Cinema (1999); Hardboiled and High Heeled: the Woman Detective in Popular Culture (2004); and It Happened One Night (2010), a study of the landmark film for the Wiley-Blackwell Studies in Film and Television series. Her most recent monograph, Pretty/Funny: Women Comedians and Body Politics (2015) has won honorable mention for two national book prizes. She is also the coeditor of the anthology Hysterical! American Women in Comedy (2017), winner of the Susan Koppelman Award from the Popular Culture Association. She is currently working on a TV Milestones book about the series The Americans.
