Who is a “real” man? Who gets to decide? Take a challenging look at American’s narrow definitions of masculinity at this screening and discussion of The Mask You Live In (2015), a new documentary from Jennifer Siebel Newsom (Miss Representation). The film investigates how boys and young men are actively encouraged to swallow their emotions, objectify women, and resolve conflicts through violence. Supported by interviews with experts in neuroscience, psychology, sports, education, and the media, the film and discussion that follows ask us to question our own deeply held gender stereotypes in hopes of raising healthier future generations of men and women.

Cosponsored with Ohio State’s Girls Circle Project and the Department of Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies.
