Athletics Meets Aesthetics in Nationally Acclaimed Facility

Glendale, AZ—Wexner Center for the Arts architect Peter Eisenman will lead exclusive VIP tours of his new University of Phoenix Stadium the weekend just prior to The Ohio State University’s national championship football game against the University of Florida. The invitation-only tours, held Saturday, January 6 at 10 am and 2 pm, will be hosted by Wexner Center Director Sherri Geldin.

The stadium, completed in August, has been voted best in the NFL (SportsBusiness Journal) and one of the 10 most impressive sports facilities on the globe (Business Week). It boasts both a retractable roof and a removable grass field.

“Eisenman has once again put his bold, innovative, and inimitable mark on a major work of architecture,” notes Wexner Center Director Sherri Geldin. “We’re pleased to help spotlight the spectacular design of this stadium—while drawing the connection between athletics and aesthetics for Buckeye fans visiting Glendale for the game. If there’s such a thing as ‘home-field advantage’ in a wholly neutral stadium, I have to believe the Buckeyes will have it!”

The Wexner Center for the Arts—on the campus of The Ohio State University—opened in 1989 and marked Eisenman’s first public building.
