Indie Star Performs Velvet Underground Tribute Opening Day of the Warhol Exhibition

Mon, Sep 08, 2008

Kicking off the Warhol exhibition and the performing arts season, the Wexner Center presents Robert Forster Plays the Velvet Underground on Saturday, September 13 at 8 pm during the opening weekend of the Wexner Center exhibition Andy Warhol: Other Voices, Other Rooms. One of the founders of revered Aussie indie band The Go-Betweens, Forster and his excellent combo will perform timeless classics by the Velvet Underground—art-rock legends that Warhol produced and championed—ripping into “I’m Waiting for My Man,” “All Tomorrow’s Parties,” “What Goes On,” and others from the Velvets’ influential catalog. The room will have special decor, lighting, and projections to evoke both Warhol's Factory and the Exploding Plastic Inevitable multimedia show that Warhol and his collaborators devised for the Velvet Underground.

Tickets are $14 for the general public, $12 for members and Warhol Club cardholders, and $12 for students. Click here to purchase tickets, or call 614 292-3535 or visit ticketmaster.com.  A ticket to the show also includes admission to the Warhol exhibition for the day (normally $8 for the general public). This show will take place in the Wexner Center Performance Space.

The Wexner Center is one of only two venues in this country to host Forster’s tribute concert, which he originally performed with his band at a Warhol exhibition in Queensland. (The other venue is Pittsburgh’s Andy Warhol Museum). Click here to go to Forster’s website.
