“A most wonderful storm of a record indeed."—Drowned in Sound

With their most recent release Ghostory demonstrating how compellingly their atmospheric dream pop sound has grown, there’s no doubt that School of Seven Bells has only become more focused since downsizing to the duo of Benjamin Curtis (of Secret Machines) with vocalist Alejandra Deheza, formerly of On!Air!Library! since the departure of her twin sister Claudia. Drawing their name from a mythical South American academy for pickpockets, the pair play out the musical tension of Curtis’ gauzy insidious guitar lines riding on jagged beats and the floating silky vocals and mystery laden lyrics that draw listeners into their darkly appealing sonic realm. As All Music.com’s reviewer described Ghostory’s spell, “lushly layered as ever, with spectral textures and propulsive dance rhythms…cathartic and uplifting, yet palpably haunted nonetheless”.
