Lipstick Traces: a secret history of the 20th century Rude Mechanicals

"Lipstick Traces is a rock concert for your head...loud, defiant, informative, funny, literate, physical and quick...fun theater with a unique rock & roll edge."--Austin Chronicle

Texas theater troupe Rude Mechanicals took on a major challenge when they decided to stage an adaptation of Greil Marcus's book Lipstick Traces.

In this cult classic, noted music writer Marcus entertainingly traces the circuitous evolution of cultural radicalism and vanguard art theory from the anarchic impulses of medieval heretics ("Work is a sin!") to the notorious nihilism of the Sex Pistols ("No Future!"). Signposts along the way include the Dada artists of the teens and twenties and the Situationists, who sparked the birth of punk rock.

Amazingly, Rude Mechanicals manage to illuminate this heady journey and capture the raucous ragtag spirit of punk in a fast-paced, fun-filled production. This award-winning show moves to Off-Broadway soon, then on for this national tour where you'll enjoy Rude Mechanicals riotous talent for stirring up a witty commotion onstage.
