"Pite's buckling, rippling phrases, in which movement impulses might begin at any point in the body, send tides of undulating but tightly controlled energy coursing through the dancers' honed, muscular forms."—New York Times

Canadian choreographer Crystal Pite and her Kidd Pivot dance ensemble enthralled a packed house when they first performed here in 2009. They now return with their latest touring program, The You Show, a selection of four works ranging from a series of duets to a new piece for all nine of the ensemble's superlative dancers.

Pite gained early prominence as a member of William Forsythe's famed Frankfurt Ballet, and Kidd Pivot is now the resident company at Künstlerhaus Mousonturm, a respected performance venue in Frankfurt. Pite is proud to have Frankfurt RM (for Frankfurt Rhine-Main, or the greater Frankfurt metropolitan region) attached to the company's name in acknowledgment of the residency's generous support.

Here's an excerpt from the Vancourier's reviewer of The You Show:

Making use of slow motion, pauses, and flashbacks, Crystal Pite has forged a kaleidoscopic piece where the image of love is shattered by its own reflection. The atmosphere is unreal, fantastical; the nine dancers, astounding. A perfect alchemy of movement, sound, and lighting stimulates the spectator's imagination. She pulls them into the very heart of the action, making the audience itself the subject of The You Show. Combining humor and sensitivity in a series of short, contrasting pieces, her heightened sense of theatricality shifts from lyricism to hilarious outbursts presented comic book style. Moving from tension to release in half a second, she breaks down the movement with organic gestures that convey both the vulnerability of the characters and the incredible power of the human machine. Both serious and playful, it is an outstanding piece.
