The Juan Maclean
"Sings the heartbreak of Kraftwerk's computer love."--City Pages
"Has the feel of a funk band jamming on the deck of Sputnik..."--Alive
With his DFA label disc Less Than Human, robo-rocker John Maclean--a.k.a. The Juan Maclean--synthesized the best bits of such seventies' synth seers as Devo, Eno, and Kraftwerk, then injected his own fresh take on electro dance beats designed for today. Kevin Elliot of Alive notes that the recording "strings together his love of Kraftwerk, Detroit house, Herbie Hancock, and the science-fiction of Philip K. Dick." Maintaining strong emotional underpinnings throughout, Maclean's vision of the future celebrates the inevitability of human shortcomings while reveling in gleaming machine-like precision.
DFA labelmate and New York DJ Tim Sweeney (known for his popular show Beats in Space on WNYU) opens the show.
