Winner of a Fringe First Award at the prestigious Edinburgh Festival and a hit at New York’s Under the Radar Festival, Tim Crouch’s powerful play ENGLAND is a compact tour-de-force whose themes will long stir you. Conceived to be staged only in contemporary art galleries, the piece is sure to resonant with the probing paintings by Luc Tuymans that will frame it here.

ENGLAND features Crouch and Hannah Ringham appearing as one character: a disarmingly cheerful narrator who serves as your somewhat naïve tour guide for a tale whose deft turns reveal dark surprises. The play slyly works in searing observations about how we choose to value the things that are most dear to us—like art or family—as it exposes the stark contrasts between the boundless pursuit of health and happiness and such endeavors’ hidden costs, or between the Third World and the West. Yet ENGLAND is also hugely entertaining and will charm you even as it gets to the very heart of matters of universal scope.
