Lambert Family Lecture to focus on artist Louise Bourgeois

For immediate release: April 12, 2011

On the occasion of a Wexner Center exhibition featuring the work of Louise Bourgeois, the next Lambert Family Lecture will celebrate the life and work of this highly influential artist, the 1999 Wexner Prize recipient who passed away last year at the age of 98. Jerry Gorovoy and Germano Celant: Remembering Louise, featuring two people close to Bourgeois, will take place Tuesday, April 26 at 7 pm in the center's Film/Video Theater, 1871 N. High St. Admission is free. The talk will also be streamed live at wexarts.org/live.

The event is held in conjunction with Double Sexus: Hans Bellmer and Louise Bourgeois, currently showing in the Wexner Center galleries and featuring many of Bourgeois's sculptures as well as her drawings. The galleries will be open until 7 pm that day to allow visitors to spend time in the exhibition before attending the talk.

For 30 years, Jerry Gorovoy was Bourgeois's assistant, collaborator, and friend. Germano Celant, former curator at the Guggenheim Museum in New York, organized Bourgeois's final exhibition before she passed away. In this conversation, they will share their memories and insights about her life, work, and career.

Wexner Center Director Sherri Geldin says, "When we began to think about who might cast the most personal and revealing perspective on Louise Bourgeois, both Jerry and Germano came immediately to mind. I am absolutely delighted to welcome them to the Wexner Center and to share their especially rich insights into the artist's extraordinary life and career."

This program is made possible by generous support from the Lambert Family Lecture Series Endowment, which promotes dialogue about global issues in art and contemporary culture, and was established at the Wexner Center for the Arts through the generosity of Bill and Sheila Lambert. Following renowned art historian and author T.J. Clark's inaugural lecture in 2004, speakers have included Ewa Lajer-Burcharth, Arthur Danto, Greil Marcus, Robert Storr, filmmaker John Waters in conversation with Vincent Fremont, and most recently, painter Luc Tuymans in conversation with T.J. Clark.
