Wexner Center to feature "essentials" in Film History 101
For immediate release: January 3, 2011
Beginning in January, the Wexner Center will take audiences back to the origins of cinema in the new series called Film History 101. Once a month, the Wex will present a selection of the essential films of the 20th century as they were intended to be presented: in a theater, on film (not on DVD or a computer screen), and in the company of an audience of fellow filmgoers. The first film of the series will be Orson Welles's The Magnificent Ambersons (1942) on January 18. F. W. Murnau's Sunrise (1927) will follow on February 22.David Filipi, director of film and video at the Wex, notes, "This series of monthly screenings will give our audience a chance to see some of history's greatest films on film, in a theatrical venue, with an audience. I'm sure many of our younger patrons have never had a chance to see these great works of art on the big screen, and now they have the perfect opportunity here at the Wex."
