See Behind-the-Scenes

Would you like to get involved and see behind-the-scenes at the Wexner Center? Consider becoming a volunteer. Volunteers come from all walks of life and range from students to retirees. All you need is your interest and enthusiasm!

Ushers

Ushers assist patrons at performances, film screenings, and special events--and you get to see the shows for free. You can experience rich and diverse programs in music, dance, and theater, see varied films, and enjoy exhibition previews and other festivities. Volunteers select the events they wish to work. Free parking is provided.

Training sessions are scheduled several times a year. Check the For Our Volunteers page of this web site for the next scheduled session. Please call 247-8487 or e-mail houseweb@wexarts.org to find out more.

Education Program Volunteers

Help bring out the artist in young people, families, and adults. College students, high school students, and community members (ages 16 and older) are invited to assist with varied arts-related education programs throughout the year. Events include weekend arts workshops, films, and performances for young people and families, as well as summer workshops for children and teens. Volunteers welcome guests, work with hands-on projects, and participate in set-up before and tear-down after events. This is a very flexible volunteer opportunity for anyone interested in arts education or community outreach. Volunteers are needed on an ongoing basis, so apply anytime. Background checks will be required.

To apply, fill out an application form and send it to Kendra Meyer, educator for youth and family programs, at kmeyer@wexarts.org. Call (614) 292-4614 or e-mail Kendra with questions or for more information.

Docents

Docents are active members of the Wexner Center's education department who lead interactive tours of gallery exhibitions and the center's unique architectural spaces. Docents work with a variety of people--university classes, school groups, teens, and art lovers from near and far--to explore and appreciate the connections between contemporary art and their own lives. Check out the wexblog to find out about some docents' experiences

No experience or previous training is required, but all docents must have an active commitment to exploring contemporary art and promoting its ability to engage, provoke, and illuminate. Those interested in becoming docents prepare by participating in the Docent-in-Training program. Keep reading to find out how.

Docent-in-Training Program
Keep watching for 2008 application details

The Docent-in-Training program is designed to enhance educational opportunities and professionalize experiences for all tour guides. Prospective docents apply for either the Student Docent Program or the Community Docent program. Applications are due in late August and training begins each September. Additional training and mentorship with experienced docents and staff continue through the winter.

Keep reading and follow the links below for additional information on each program in 2007. Check back in the summer for updates on the program in 2008

Student Docent Program
All university students are invited to apply to the Student Docent Program. The program is open to all graduate and undergraduate students from any academic department from any local college or university. Academic credit is available for participating in the training program. Candidates who successfully complete the training program will become student docents and will be eligible to be paid for each tour they lead.

Community Docent Program
All members of the community who are not currently enrolled students are invited to apply to the Community Docent Program as volunteers. Although community docents will not be eligible for academic or financial benefits, all will have the opportunity to participate in Wexner Center and university programming in unique and rewarding ways.
