"Probably the most audacious heist movie you'll ever see—and all the more remarkable for being a true story."—Trondheim International Film Festival

The Old Thieves is a chilling yet humorous documentary portrait of the Mexican underworld in the 1960s. The four notorious bandits interviewed in the film were legends in their own time, belonging to a subculture of petty crooks who became celebrities. Handsome and well-dressed, their exploits were the stuff of Hollywood crime capers. The most famous of the bunch, El Carrizo, proudly recalls the time he unknowingly robbed the home of the president of Mexico. Intimate interviews and archival footage vividly recall a time when these charming professional thieves were virtually unstoppable—and reveal the price they eventually had to pay. Nominated for Best Picture and Best Director at the Ariels, Mexico’s national film awards. (85 mins., 35mm)
