New Documentary

Nonfiction filmmaking holds a strong appeal for many committed directors and producers. This ongoing series lets you sample wide-ranging approaches to the contemporary documentary.

Manufactured Landscapes

(Jennifer Baichwal, 2006)

Preceded by Moment Musical

(Bruce Checefsky, 2006)

// Double Feature

Fri, June 8 - Sat, June 9, 2007  |  7:00PM
Film/Video Theater

Canadian photographer Edward Burtynsky specializes in large-scale images of seemingly beautiful but often-toxic industrial landscapes in, for example, China and Bangladesh. Manufactured Landscapes' director Baichwal probes further, investigating how these environments are endured by their human inhabitants. (90 mins., 35mm)

Cleveland filmmaker Bruce Checefsky's Moment Musical, screening first, is a reconstruction of a lost, experimental Polish film from 1933. (6 mins., 16mm)
