UPA Animation: Hollywood's Best Cartoons

wex grid image fill

Although the name UPA (United Productions of America) might not be as synonymous with Hollywood animation as Disney or Warner Bros., the studio produced some of the most influential and stylish cartoons of its era.

Please note special start times. Founded in 1941 in the wake of a Disney animators' strike, UPA pioneered the technique of "limited animation," which was eventually copied by many companies for cost-cutting, rather than artistic, reasons. This program features such acclaimed cartoons as Gerald McBoing-Boing (1951), Rooty Toot Toot (1951), Madeline (1952), and A Unicorn in the Garden (1953). (Program approx. 85 mins.)
