Trapped by the Mormons

Live music by Sue Harshe H. B. Parkinson, 1922

A British silent film and a genuine cinematic oddity, Trapped by the Mormons is a Reefer Madness-like cautionary tale, with the perceived evils of Mormonism replacing those of marijuana.

The story focuses on innocent English girls being lured into polygamous marriages and then dispatched to Salt Lake City. Banned in the U.S. on its original release, the film was followed by the sequel Married to a Mormon. Scrawl's Sue Harshe provides live and recorded atmospheric accompaniment. (68 mins.)
