Symbiopsychotaxiplasm: Take One

William Greaves, 1968

Three layers of documentary action warp your perception in William Greaves's groovy but twisted cinematic experiment. Made in 1968 and set in Central Park, Symbiopsychotaxiplasm is finally receiving the theatrical release it never enjoyed upon completion. On the surface, the film is the document of a screen test between two actors playing bickering lovers. At the same time, another camera crew is documenting the screen test's crew, and a third crew is documenting all of it. Got it? (35mm, 72 mins.)
