"An indispensable classic that defines the indefinable."--John Zorn

Outsider music comes inside in Songs in the Key of Z, an illustrated presentation by author/producer Irwin Chusid, who introduces and discusses video clips from the lunatic fringe of musical expression.
Typically judged "bad" or "inept" by listeners applying mainstream standards, outsider musicians are often self-taught artists with an abundance of creativity and passion.

Chusid explores their world in his book Songs in the Key of Z, which profiles dozens of prominent and obscure outsiders including Harry Partch, The Shaggs, Syd Barrett, Tiny Tim, and The Cherry Sisters.

A producer, journalist, and historian, Chusid was the primary force behind the rediscovery of composer Raymond Scott. He also hosts the Incorrect Music Hour on WFMU, an independent radio station broadcasting in the New York City area.
