See them here--Gus Van Sant's rarely screened first feature, plus a selection of his short films.

Van Sant's first feature, the rarely seen Mala Noche, is a modest yet fully involving story about a quiet young skid row clerk who develops an obsessive crush on a handsome Mexican illegal alien. As one critic wrote, "Van Sant navigates the distinctions between these two worlds with intelligence and invigorating style--this is a knockout debut." (1985; 78 mins.)

Stay afterwards for a screening of Van Sant's memorable short films. This collection of works produced over the past two decades includes Flea Sings, Four Boys in a Volvo, Discipline of DE, My Friend, DeWitt Clinton Choir, Junior, Ballad of the Skeletons, and the amazing Thanksgiving Prayer as recited by William S. Burroughs. (1982-2000; program approx. 35 mins.)
