"The season's best picture! Don't miss this baby, whatever you do!"—Mike D'Angelo, Time Out New York

"Rivals The Exorcist, Rosemary's Baby, and Eraserhead as a disturbing treatise on the fear of parenthood."—The New York Times

The latest feature from Czech animator Jan Svankmajer, Little Otik is based on a folktale about a childless couple who "adopt" a vaguely human-shaped tree stump as their "baby," only to have it turn into an all-devouring monster. A disturbing yet hilarious treatise on parenthood, it artfully combines real actors and settings with stop-motion animation techniques to bring "Little Otik" to malevolent life. (2000; 127 mins.)

Introducing each screening is the inimitable Brothers Quay tribute, The Cabinet of Dr. Svankmajer. (1984; 14 mins.)
