Je tu il elle, Born in Flames

(Chantal Akerman, 1975)
(Lizzie Borden, 1983) New restoration!

Born in Flames

Her first feature and arguably her most sexually daring, Je tu il elle stars Akerman as a young woman coping with a breakup alone in her apartment. Tired of her self-imposed isolation, the woman embarks on a trip that includes an emotionless hookup with a truck driver and a passionate visit with her former girlfriend. (86 mins., DCP)

One of the landmark indie films of the 1980s, and set in a then not-too-distant-future, Born in Flames is a dystopian tale of a feminist insurgency against a sexist and racist government. Featuring an appearance by director Kathryn Bigelow and a soundtrack featuring Red Krayola and all-girl punk-funk band The Bloods. (90 mins., 35mm)

Born in Flames is preserved by Anthology Film Archives with restoration funding by The Hollywood Foreign Press Association and The Film Foundation. Laboratory services by Video and Film Solutions and Audio Mechanics.
