Family Fundamentals

Arthur Dong, 2002

Oscar-nominated filmmaker Arthur Dong (Coming Out under Fire) continues his quest to understand American prejudices in Family Fundamentals, an intimate look at three conservative Christian families with gay and lesbian children.

Arthur Dong's documentary Family Fundamentals examines what happens when fundamentalist parents regard their own kids as a threat to the human race. (It's a stance echoed by Jerry Falwell's pronouncement that feminists and homosexuals have "turned God's anger against America").

Among those profiled are a Pentecostal minister, the gay son of a Mormon bishop, and the gay former aide to conservative California Congressman Bob Dornan. (75 mins.)
