Drawing Restraint 9

Matthew Barney, 2005

Drawing Restraint 9 is the first creative collaboration between Matthew Barney and Bjork, two of the most ambitious and visionary figures in fine art and music.

Please note special ticket prices. Tickets are on sale November 1. This visually stunning film (Barney's first feature-length project since The Cremaster Cycle) uses a massive Japanese whaling ship as the backdrop for an elaborate, sensual Shinto marriage ceremony for two "Occidental Guests" (played by longtime real-life partners Barney and Bjork). Barney's features operate somewhere between sculpture, performance, and film, and Drawing Restraint 9's almost complete absence of dialogue allows Barney's captivating visuals to fuse with Bjork's enchanting soundtrack (which includes a moving song sung by Will Oldham). Drawing Restraint 9 will not be released on home video, and the Wexner Center's previous screenings of The Cremaster Cycle sold out, so buy your tickets early for this Columbus premiere. (135 mins., 35mm)
