From Turkey, Distant won the Grand Jury Prize at Cannes last year and featured stunning performances by its male leads, unknowns who shared the prize for Best Actor. Distant presents a double portrait of a sophisticated photographer and his unemployed country cousin, who moves in with him while searching for work. Evoking the films of modernist masters Michelangelo Antonioni and Andrei Tarkovsky, Distant is an affecting parable of the distance between two unlikely roommates set adrift within stunningly photographed cityscapes of contemporary Istanbul.
