Delicatessen

(Marc Caro and Jean-Pierre Jeunet, 1991)

New Restoration

Delicatessen

Set in a crumbling apartment building in postapocalyptic France, Delicatessen is a darkly comic tale of its landlord, a butcher, who tries to keep order and his existing tenants fed while luring new ones in to replace his mysteriously diminishing stock. Like Caro and Jeunet’s follow-up The City of Lost Children (1995), Delicatessen is an inspired homage to the visually delirious and satirical films of Terry Gilliam. (99 mins., 2K DCP)
