Counting links 15 chapters dedicated to influences from Chekhov to Chris Marker, shot in locations ranging from Moscow to New York to Istanbul, creating a vivid portrait of contemporary life. From street protests to snowfalls, the film offers up a quiet form of resistance by using cinema to closely observe the chaos and beauty of the world. Jem Cohen’s masterful Museum Hours was one of the best received films we showed in 2013 and we’re thrilled to have him return with his most personal film yet. (110 mins., DCP)
