Cold Water Summer with Monika

Double Feature

wex grid image fill

A double homage to adolescence and all its energy, rebellion, and turmoil. Here Assayas has paired his semiautobiographical account of adolesence, Cold Water, with an early work from Ingmar Bergman, Summer with Monika. Part of a French television series for which directors were asked to make a film about the time when they were 16 years old, Cold Water is a ruefully observed tale of teenage love and lust set to a soundtrack of early 70s' rock. With Virginie Ledoyen. (1994; 92 mins.)

An early masterpiece from Ingmar Bergman, Summer with Monika focuses on a young couple who return from a sensual summer only to have their relationship crushed by the harshness of modern Stockholm. With Harriet Anderson. (1953; 96 mins.)
