Chocolat Man No Run

Double Feature

wex grid image fill

Chocolat, Denis' auspicious debut, is followed by Man No Run, a feature-length documentary about the Cameroonian band Les Tetes Brulees.

Second feature start time: 9 pm. Set in the 1950s, Chocolat, transforms autobiographical details by focusing on a French woman who returns to her childhood home in colonial Cameroon. The film renders this locale as a starkly gorgeous series of intimate and overpowering landscapes. With Isaach de Bankole, as the family's native house-servant. (1988; 105 mins.)

In the rarely seen Man No Run, Denis accompanies the Cameroonian band Les Tetes Brulees on their first tour across France, spreading their rock-inflected brand of Bikutsi music, an ancient rhythmic form from the rain forest. (1989; 90 mins.)
