Carancho, Argentina's submission for the 2010 Best Foreign Language Academy Award, kicks off the evening. Stay for The Aztec Mummy vs. the Human Robot, the third film in the popular Mexican sci-fi/horror Aztec Mummy series.

"An excellent cast along with superb camerawork and editing work to create a mood of tense immediacy from the attention-getting start to the spiraling chaos of the extraordinarily gripping finale."—Time Out on Carancho

Carancho is a classic film noir scenario transplanted to a realistic Buenos Aires setting, where a disturbingly large part of the economy revolves around traffic accidents. An ambulance-chasing lawyer (Ricardo Darín, star of last year's foreign Oscar winner The Secret in Their Eyes) forms an unlikely romance with a young, idealistic ER doctor who is new to the city. The two soon find themselves caught in a moral quagmire and surrounded by corruption. Not just a riveting dark thriller, Carancho also tells a novel love story set among people who trade in sudden tragedy and death. (107 mins., 35mm)

In the camp classic The Aztec Mummy vs. the Human Robot, a mad scientist creates a murderous robot to steal an ancient Aztec treasure. The third film in the popular Mexican sci-fi/horror Aztec Mummy series, this installment spends almost half of its running time recapping the first two films, making for a dementedly entertaining viewing experience. The film culminates with a duel between the two title characters that recalls the charmingly low-budget B-movie "special effects" of Ed Wood's productions from the same era. Print provided by Filmoteca de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (65 mins., 35mm)

The Aztec Mummy vs. the Human Robot begins 9 PM.
