"Fifty years on, still the newest film in town!"—John Powers, Vogue

"It's not hyperbole to say that Godard's New Wave touchstone, still one of the most electrifying debuts in history, changed cinema forever."—New York Magazine

"In this stunning new print, you can better embrace the excitement of a pretender in a fantasy land. If you miss out on this print, you are truly missing out on another life."—Time Out New York

Paris, film noir, sex, and cool have never been more beautifully evoked than in these ninety minutes that shook the world. Godard's first feature film, based on a story idea by François Truffaut (with Claude Chabrol as technical advisor), was the harbinger of the French New Wave, both a jazz-like improvisation on American crime thrillers and a revolution.

Featuring now-legendary performances from Jean-Paul Belmondo as the Bogart-inspired small-time hood living on the edge and Jean Seberg as la petite américaine who casually sleeps with him and just as casually betrays him, Breathless is funny and daring and just as much a breath of fresh air today as it was on its release five decades ago. Audaciously reinventing the grammar of movies, Breathless transformed cinema overnight and instantly put Godard in the rarified company of Pablo Picasso, James Joyce, Bertolt Brecht, Igor Stravinsky, et al., as a modernist master.

In honor of the film's 50th anniversary, Breathless is presented in a stunning new 35mm restoration—the first ever in the film's history. (90 mins., 35mm)

NOTE: This brand new restoration (including the newly revised translation) is not on DVD—and no DVD or Blu Ray release is currently being planned.
