Jac Leirner was born in 1961 in São Paulo, Brazil, where she continues to live and work. In the early 1990s, she was awarded residencies at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis and the Museum of Modern Art in Oxford (England), as well as a fellowship at Oxford University. She has exhibited at galleries and museums including Galerie Lelong and The Museum of Modern Art in New York, as well as in such international exhibitions as the Venice Biennale (1990 and 1997); Documenta 9 in Kassel, Germany (1992); and the 1999 Liverpool Biennial in England.
