| About
the Work Jac Leirner (short for Jacqueline) is a compulsive collector of everyday items, which she then transforms into exquisitely organized installations, sculptural objects, and two-dimensional compositions. Her materials range from cigarette packs to plastic bags to currency and other common objects that circulate through our daily lives. In the Adhesives series, she has collected stickers and other identifying emblems that are assembled and attached to plexiglass structures. One of the exhibited works relates to rock concerts, the other two to art institutions. In each the composition is an assemblage of detritus or souvenirs, stuff we collect then eventually discard. Yet her elegant arrangements of these materials emphasize formal and conceptual dimensions in her work, dimensions that both evoke and challenge the artistic strategies of minimalism, pop art, and constructivism. |
