Born in 1959 in Hämeenlinna, Finland, Eija-Liisa Ahtila lives and works in Helsinki. In the early 1990s she began creating experimental narrative fictions in the format of video installations. Her solo shows include a retrospective at the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin and exhibitions at the Tate Modern in London and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. Her work has been included in many group exhibitions, including Cinéma Cinéma: Contemporary Art and the Cinematic Experience at Stedelijk Van Abbemusem in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.
