About the Artist

Franz Ackermann was born in 1963 in Neumarkt St. Veit, Germany, and now lives in Berlin. After studying in Munich and Hamburg, Ackermann spent time in Hong Kong as a recipient of a DAAD scholarship, a grant given by a German organization to promote international academic relationships. He has exhibited in institutions including the Kusthalle Nürnberg in Nuremberg, Germany; PS 1 in New York; the Institute for Contemporary Art in Boston; the Royal College of Art in London; and the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh. Recent solo exhibitions and mural projects include those at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, and the Kunsthalle Basel, all in 2002.
